History of the Dubai Singers:
The origins of the Dubai Singers are lost in the mists of time, but the embryonic group which was to become the Dubai Singers initially formed in someone's living room round the piano. The Singers evolved into the Dubai and Sharjah Singers (with occasional orchestra) who, along with Dubai Drama Group, formed the basis of the Dubai expat community culture! The name of Sharjah was dropped because of an objection from the Dubai Municipality! The Dubai Singers have put on many wonderful performances including Handel's Messiah, Requiems by many composers, a whole raft of operettas and musicals, joint shows with the Dubai Drama Group, support group for visiting opera professionals, and much much more.Our Goals
Our main goals are to have fun singing and in doing so to entertain others. To that end we have a dedicated and talented Musical Director and an equally dedicated and talented rehearsal pianist. Although we have fun, we are, on the other hand, very serious about putting on quality productions so even if you are not especially talented, we do require you to be dedicated.
Concerts
We perform 3 or 4 concerts a year. These usually include a range of music, and include a Winter festive concert featuring christmas favourites from around the globe. They are always social events, with interval refreshments.
Concert Dress
Ladies wear a black ankle length skirt, black top (sleeves at least elbow length) and black closed in shoes. Brighten up the outfit at Christmas with a scarf/necklace/brooch earrings. Gents wear black trousers and shoes, a white shirt and black bow tie (at Christmas swap the black bow tie for a more festive option)
